IT’S BEAUTY TIP THURSDAY!! Todays Tip… ROSACEA!!

WHAT IS ROSACEA???

Rosacea is a common rash found on the center of the face and usually effects middle aged people. It’s a tendancy to be flushed easily, followed by persistent redness on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. There may also be a cluster of red bumps and pus spots. While the cause of rosacea is unknown, there is no cure for the condition, but with medical advice and a good skin care routine it can be controlled.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin
  • Small visible blood vessels on the face
  • Bumps and pimpls on the face
  • Watery or irritated eyes

Rosacea is one of the most common skin conditions. Up to 80% of people with the condition dont even know what it is, let alone that they have it. Because of the effects that rosecea has on the skin (red faced and acne like) it can sometimes lower peoples confidence. I have been told lately that it can be quite intimadating to approach a cosmetic counter (which shocked me) but for a lady suffering from the symptoms of severe Rosacea it can be hard for them to face  their general day-to-day commitments, and truth be know they just might be causing more harm to their skin with poor skin care routine.  Everyone who suffers from Rosacea are not going to have the same common trigger. Avoiding these triggers may help to give relief from the flare ups. I would always recommend that you try to keep a diary of the different times that you notice a flare up, and this may help you to keep it under control.

SOME TRIGGERS ARE:

  • Smoking
  • Spicy food and temp. hot foods
  • Alcohol esp. red wine and beer
  • Over exposure to sun
  • Going from hot to cold climates
  • Chocolate
  • Some dairy products
  • Yeast extract
  • Citrus fruits, tomatoes, banana’s and red plums

Okay, so most of the triggers could be considered as treats, but only some of the above may be your triggers, so this is why keeping a diary is a good thing, and lets just say you where goin to have a glass of red wine then on that day try to drink plenty of water before and after to flush out the toxins. Every thing in moderation. When suffering from Rosacea it IS essential that you have a good skin care routine and you need to be carefull with the product that you use. Your skin needs a delicate touch!! Using a gentle cleanse (NO WIPES) and an oil-free moisture cream daily, this will help sooth the appearance of redness. Always use a moisture cream daily to help to build the moisture barrier in the skin which will help with the skins natural defences. ALWAYS WEAR A SUN PROTECTION!!!!!!!!!  A good skin care routine will dramatically reduce the appearance of the irratation and redness. When choosing a foundation choose one that is oil-free.
