Bon Anniversaire Bourjois!

We love birthdays here at Sam McCauleys (any excuse for cake), so we’re really excited that 2013 marks the 150th birthday of the French cosmetics house Bourjois!

Born in Paris in 1863, Bourjois was originally created for the theatre by Joseph-Albert Ponsin, an actor and cosmetologist whose first creations were makeup sticks in many colours, especially for the actors.

Soon the popularity of Ponsin’s products grew beyond the theatre, and in 1868 Ponsin entrusted his entire activity to Alexandre-Napoléon Bourjois, under who’s leadership saw the brand expand rapidly….and that’s where the name Bourjois came from.

Little pots of gold….and blue, and brown and purple!

150 years have seen a lot of innovation by Bourjois – including, in 1890 these make-up kits. Ultra-thin, with a moiré palette and built-in mirror, these chic kits contained a mini push-up lipstick in a deep red shade, a mini face powder and a small powder puff in swan’s-down material. Packaged in elegant and avant-garde mini cases, women carried them around to touch-up on the go.

Avant garde chic

Fast forward to 2013 and Bourjois has expanded to a multi award winning make-up range in a wide variety of colours.  Recent awards include Image Magazine 2013 Beauty Awards for Kohl Kajal, winner in the eyes section and Magic Nail Polish Remover, winner in the nails category.

For their Spring 2013 collection, Bourjois have added a modern twist to a 60’s make-up look (gone is any sign of cakey panstick).  Sixties Remix is a fresh and funky Spring collection and is bursting with ‘joie de vivre’!

Sixties Remix….oooh la love!!

Liner Pinceau (€7.99) is used to give eyes a feline flick in one thick glossy line, and then a line of light blue Ombre a Paupieres (€9.99) eyeshadow, diluted with water for a very 60’s look, is added above.  Lashes are finished off with a slick of Volumizer Ultra Black (€13.99) mascara which, with it’s innovative packaging gives maximum lashes without clumping in two steps – the first step is a lightly loaded brush for defined volume and the second step is a fully loaded brush for up to 11 times more volume without clumping.

Lips are sensuous and soft, with Rouge Edition (€10.49) lipstick – Shade 19 Corail en Vogue – is the colour used for the Sixties Remix look.  Rouge Edition is smooth and moisturizing and leaves lips super hydrated.

Even if the weather isn’t very ‘Spring’ your nails will with ‘pop’ with a slick of bright yellow 1Seconde Gel Varnish (€7.99) in Sunny Sunday.  There’s no guarantees that it’ll make you feel like you’re in the south of France but it is verrry pretty to look at and easy peasy to apply because of it’s fan shaped brush!!

And thanks to les madams & monsieurs in Bourjois we have the whole Sixties Remix collection to giveaway to one of you guys!  PLUS they’ve also thrown in a bottle of their Healthy Mix Serum Foundation (€15.99), with its fresh and instant blending gel texture that glides onto the skin for an even, natural finish with no mask effect.  Nice!
