Mark Sajda Back to School Energy Advice

Our Superintendent Pharmacist Mark Sajda has some tips to help you get your child’s school year off to a great start, in prime health and filled with energy.

Pharmaton Kiddi Health Liquid MultivitaminPharmaton Kiddi Health helps kids grow up mentally and physically strong.  It is rich in Vitamin D to support normal development of strong bones and Vitamin B5 for normal mental performance.  The range includes an orange flavour syrup which is sugar free and suitable from 1 year upwards, and then for children over 4 years of age there are orange flavour chewable tablets.  Either the syrup or the tablets would be an ideal multivitamin to give to your child on their return to school.

Pharmaton Kiddi Health can also be used for times of extra nutritional requirements, such as when a child has a poor appetite, or could benefit from a food supplement e.g during short periods of illness.

MorEPA Mini-JuniorOmega-3 supplements are particularly important for young children, and DHA which is a constituent of Omega-3 plays a key role in a child’s development.  Unfortunately many children do not consume enough fish in their diets and may be lacking in healthy amounts of DHA.  This is important as DHA intake contributes to maintenance of normal vision and normal brain function.  The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA and our pharmacists and staff can show you which supplements are most suitable for your childs needs.

Udo's Choice ProbioticIf your child suffers from intermittent to constant abdominal pain, without evidence of a specific cause, it may be worth trying a probiotic specifically designed for children.  These pains are often defined as functional abdominal pain.  They are one of the most common complaints of children, and affect 10-20% of all school-aged children and are one of the most common complaints of children and adolescents visiting a pediatric gastroenterologist.  Probiotics support a child’s health by fostering the proper balance of good bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, and taken regularly probiotics can actually help your child’s digestive tract to work better.

There are many different brands and supplements available, for all age groups, and our pharmacists or healthcare staff would be delighted to discuss these with you and recommend the most appropriate for your child.
